Ruairidh grew up in the charming village of Daliburgh on the island of South Uist. From a very young age, he developed a deep passion for singing in Gàidhlig, a language he cherishes dearly.
One of Ruairidh’s fondest childhood memories is sitting in the living room with his mother, learning the words to a Gàidhlig song by the fire. The experience left an indelible mark on him, and he finds profound emotion in singing the songs composed by the great bards of centuries past.
To Ruairidh, performing these songs is more than just an art form; it's a way of carrying on the legacy of these magnificent individuals. He feels it is both an honor and a responsibility to ensure that he sings in a manner true to the bard's original intent. Music, for Ruairidh, is an inseparable part of life.
Ruairidh has had several notable highlights in his musical journey, recently he achieved a remarkable feat by winning both theBònn Òr a Chomunn and the Bònn Òir an t-Seann Nòis at the Royal National Mòd in Perth, making him only the second person in the event's 130-year history to accomplish this.
He has also graced stages at prestigious venues like the Eden Court, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Perth Concert Hall, and the Gloir Theatre in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland, where he celebrated 25 years of “Struth na Maoile,” a tribute to both the Gàidhlig and Irish languages.
Despite all these accomplishments, Ruairidh holds his performance at St. Peter’s Church Hall in Daliburgh on the Island of South Uist as his highest highlight.
