Calum MacColl is a singer and musician from Fort William with a deep-rooted connection to Gaelic song and culture.

Although he did not grow up speaking Gaelic, he was immersed in the tradition from an early age through music, ceilidhs, and the influence of his father, Charlie MacColl, a native Gaelic speaker from Dorlin near Acharacle.

Calum grew up playing the bagpipes and accordion and developed a strong love for traditional Gaelic and ceilidh music.

After returning to Scotland in 2016, Calum began learning Gaelic and reconnecting with songs passed down through his family. He went on to compete at the Royal National Mòd, winning the Silver Pendant in Glasgow in 2019 and the Traditional Gold Medal at the Inverness Mòd in 2021, where he performed songs composed by his great-uncle. Calum has a particular passion for sharing songs from his own family alongside classic ceilidh songs, performing them in his own style with lively accompaniment.

Alongside his musical life, Calum is a meteorologist. After spending five years working for the Met Office in Devon, he returned to Scotland to work for the Mountain Weather Information Service and now presents the weather on BBC Scotland.
