HebCelt is bringing stiltwalking, aerobatics and top tricks back to Stornoway this summer as the acclaimed Think Circus troupe joins the official line-up in July.
The circus will be based in ‘The Magpie’ - a black and white striped tent - on Castle Green, as well as sharing their packed programme of fun right across the festival.
That includes cabaret shows, walkabout performances, plate spinning, juggling, and a circus school giving festival-goers of all ages the chance to try their hand at a whole host of skills.
Kat Borrowdale, the Artistic Director for Think Circus, said: “The Think Circus performers are delighted to be bringing our blend of comedic and contemporary circus to HebCelt this year, in a fun circus cabaret not to be missed.
“Featuring stunning acrobatics, lyrical aerial lollipop, high-energy hula hoop, the island's tallest man and a very unexpected approach to household cleaning, this is captivating circus for all the family.
“As a Scottish social circus charity, we are all about encouraging everybody to try circus arts and discover their hidden talents and inner child, so we can't wait to share our skills at the festival.
“Touring to the islands is one of the highlights of our summer and we can't wait to be part of HebCelt. We'll see you there.”
Also returning for more family fun are last year’s smash hits OH!CON who will be landing with a world of sci-fi, fantasy, gaming and comics. Festival goers will be able to dive into costume fun, cosplay and gaming sessions, along with craft and comic book making.
An Lanntair’s creative team will also be on site and pitching up at the Art Tent on the top of Castle Green where fun lovers will have a chance to create miniature indigenous animals and sea creatures to populate an island landscape.
Operations Co-ordinator Carol Ferguson said: "Both we and our attendees have really missed having a circus at HebCelt over the past couple of years, so we are absolutely delighted to be welcoming Think Circus to the festival for the first time.
“Their mission and ethos align perfectly with HebCelt, bringing people together through connection, community and collaboration. We can’t wait to see these cabaret shows, workshops and walkabouts back on the green this year, creating magical moments for families and audiences of all ages to enjoy."
“We also saw what an amazing hit OH!CON were excited to see how people dress up. We were blown away about how imaginative people were, so it should be just out of this world.
“It’s brilliant to have our friends at An Lanntair back too, especially with a project that is at the heart of both the island’s history, and the festival’s home, and so is definitely one people should go and check out.”
This year’s festival takes place in Stornoway from 15 to 18 July, with headliners Mànran, The Mary Wallopers and The Saw Doctors, joined by others including The Peatbog Faeries, Valtos, The Tumbling Souls, FARA, Isla Scott, Emberline, Sean Harrison and Band, Dàna, and many more.
