James Edwyn and The Borrowed Band

Glasgow sextet James Edwyn & the Borrowed Band were formed in 2013, influenced by folk singer songwriters such as Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan as well as alternative country artists such as Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings, the Felice Brothers and Ryan Adams. Their music is a mix of alt country and folk rock roots orientated Americana.

The band is centred around singer/songwriter and guitarist James Edwyn (The Streetlight Conspiracy, Bubblecraft). They got their name as each member was borrowed from various bands James has been involved in. Joining James are Emma Joyce (Vocals), Scott Keenan (Keys / Vocals), Ronnie Gilmour (Electric guitar), Ross McLaughlin (Bass) and Neil McDonald (Drums, Percussion).

The band has chosen so far to only play a select number of well received gigs including a slot on the Danny Kyle stage for Celtic Connections 2014, focusing on recording and releasing their debut album ‘The Tower’. The album was launched at a sold out show at The Old Hairdressers in Glasgow. The band were also highlighted by the Scottish Sunday Herald as one of the best new acts in Scotland, shortlisting them in the final 12 as part of their Wickerman promotion.

With work well under way on their second album, expect to hear a preview of that, at their HebCelt show.
