Ian SchoutenAcoustic Stage, Friday

Ian Schouten

Ian Schouten picked up his first acoustic guitar at the age of 14 and hasn’t let go since. He strived to teach himself how to play, picking up styles and techniques from virtuosos such as Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, and taking inspirations from some of his favourite bands/artists such as Counting Crows.

Ian’s first taste of the live music scene came when he joined folk band The Sea Atlas. Banjo in hand, Ian performed to small groups in intimate venues, larger audiences in sold out concert halls and even packed out tents at various festivals including HebCelt. He went on to playing electric guitar with local modern-Celtic band at festivals ranging from the HebCelt in his hometown, to 'Schots Weekend' Festival in Belgium with a Burns’ Night in Portugal in between.

Ian Schouten’s own brand of music blends his tastes and styles with his experience and musical knowledge gained through performing with alongside various artists and bands from the Isle of Lewis. Having spent years playing guitar, Ian has strived to make his acoustic music more refined, mature and resonant.
