Raised in South Uist surrounded mainly by Gaelic, bagpipe music and hymns Kathleen has had an interesting and varied career in broadcasting, theatre and singing for many years. A latecomer to singing via performances in acting roles such as the short film, An Ceasnachadh: The Interrogation of a Highland Lass (2000), which saw Kathleen sing Oran na Cloiche for the end credits. This led onto her singing in the first ever Gaelic feature film Seachd - The Inaccessible Pinnacle from which Ridley Scott hired her to sing on the soundtrack of Hollywood film Robin Hood" in 2010.

Og-Mhadainn Shamhraidh, Kathleen's first album, released to critical acclaim and nominated in Best album at the Trads in 2006, the same year that she picked up Gaelic Singer of the Year at the same event.

Kathleen featured in The Transatlantic Sessions Series 5 in the company of Aly Bain and Jerry Douglas including a hymn with Alison Krauss. 2012 saw the release of her long awaited second album Cille Bhride which was awarded Album of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards in 2012 and a track from that album, Sneachd Air Druim Uachdar was nominated at the Radio 2 Folk awards 2013.
