Festival Interviews

What has been your personal career highlight of 2009?
Oooh too many to mention. I love what I do, but I suppose every year brings new adventures, and I enjoy all the new challenges that come my way - like trying TV presenting for BBC Alba for the first time or performing on the Transatlantic Sessions Series 4. I also had the honour of singing this year with legends like James Taylor and Liam Clancy (who sadly just passed away).

With baby on the way, what are your plans for 2010?
Some well earned time at home for the first part of the year, then it's back to work for us come late Spring. We already have a busy schedule of festivals planned for the summer in the UK and Europe, plus a planned trip to the US and Canada in the Autumn.

What did you think of the HebCelt winning Event of the Year at the Scottish Trad Awards?
Well deserved. It's always been a highlight in the calender for me personally, and as a performing artist you are always treated to a real, warm, Hebridean welcome! HebCelt as a festival raises the bar in many ways, and I am proud to say it has a popular reputation on the international artist circuit.

New Year is traditionally a time for thinking about jobs, careers and suchlike. Do you have any tips for young people thinking about a music performance career?
It's not too late to choose something else! No, I am just kidding. I would say - work hard, play fair and stick to what you believe in. Don't be fooled by those who promise you the world and make it sound easy. You only ever get out of something what you put in.

Lastly, are you planning to have any New Year resolutions?
I always have New Year Resolutions. And I nearly always stick to them too! This year I will be making my own little list in my wee black book. And I never tell :o)
